Al-Awn Foundation for Development and Ministry of Education Sign MoU to Train 450 Rural Female Teachers Across Six Yemeni Governorates

Al-Awn Foundation for Development, represented by its Executive Director, Dr. Abdullah Bin Othman, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Education, represented by H.E. Prof. Adel Abdulmajeed Al-Abbadi, Minister of Education, to implement the “Access to Education in Rural Areas – Phase II” project.

The project is jointly funded by Al-Awn Foundation for Development and the Saudi Program for Development and Reconstruction of Yemen (SPDRY). It aims to prepare and train 450 rural female teachers across six Yemeni governorates between June 2026 and February 2028.

The initiative builds upon the long-standing strategic partnership between Al-Awn Foundation and the Ministry of Education and reflects their shared commitment to improving access to quality education in rural communities. By increasing the number of qualified female teachers in underserved areas, the project seeks to address barriers to girls’ education and contribute to reducing school dropout rates among girls.

During the signing ceremony, held in the interim capital Aden, H.E. Minister Al-Abbadi commended Al-Awn Foundation for Development for its continued support of the education sector. He highlighted the Foundation’s significant contributions to strengthening and sustaining the educational process, particularly in light of the exceptional challenges facing the country.

For his part, Dr. Abdullah Bin Othman expressed Al-Awn Foundation’s pride in this partnership, emphasizing that the project represents a continuation of the Foundation’s educational interventions since 2005. He noted that the initiative aligns with the Foundation’s vision of maximizing the impact of education as a key driver of sustainable development and community empowerment.

The project is expected to enhance educational opportunities for thousands of girls in rural areas by equipping schools with qualified female teachers who can effectively respond to the needs of local communities and support a more inclusive learning environment.

The signing ceremony was attended by several senior officials from the Ministry of Education and representatives of Al-Awn Foundation for Development.
