Ministry of Higher Education Announces National Ranking of Yemeni Universities and Reaffirms Commitment to Higher Education Reform

Aden – The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research concluded the Seventh Consultative Meeting of Presidents of Public and Private Universities for 2026, held in the interim capital, Aden, in partnership with Al-Awn Foundation for Development under the theme "Effective Partnership for Achieving Comprehensive Quality." During the meeting, the Ministry officially announced the results of the National Ranking of Yemeni Universities.

The Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, Technical Education, and Vocational Training, Prof. Dr. Amin Noman Al-Qudsi, affirmed that the Ministry remains committed to implementing a comprehensive package of reforms aimed at advancing the higher education system, strengthening quality assurance and academic accreditation, and improving educational outcomes to better meet the needs of national development and the labor market.

According to the national ranking results, the University of Science and Technology – Aden ranked first with 66.778 points, followed by the University of Aden with 48.713 points, and Seiyun University with 45.916 points. Al-Janad University for Science and Technology placed fourth, while Al-Saeed University ranked fifth.

The Minister explained that the national ranking serves as an important instrument for evaluating institutional performance and motivating universities to continuously improve the quality of education and scientific research. He noted that the current edition introduced enhanced evaluation criteria to ensure greater accuracy, transparency, and objectivity.

The consultative meeting concluded with several key recommendations, including the development of a National Higher Education Strategy through 2030, accelerating digital transformation across universities, strengthening professional development programs for faculty members, expanding the integration of artificial intelligence applications in higher education, and reinforcing collaboration between the Ministry and both public and private higher education institutions.

The two-day meeting brought together senior Ministry officials, presidents of public and private universities, as well as academics and higher education specialists. Participants discussed a range of strategic issues related to quality assurance and academic accreditation, university admission policies, student assessment mechanisms, and diversifying university funding sources.
